Home Stretch!

Welp--we's in the home stretch, eh!  We've been gone for so long!!

While Mike was at drill, I braved Ikea.  Didn't realize it, but they were giving away free breakfasts.  I had vaguely even remembered they had a "restaurant", so that was a nice surprise especially since I hadn't eaten.  I'm getting tired of eating out.

I was impressed with my restraint while shopping.  I saw lots of cute ideas, but nothing that really jumped off the shelves.  I did find a few little things.  The key is to *not* get a shopping cart.  If you can't carry it, then you don't need it.  And let me just tell you, Ikea is a huge store.  I ended up off-loading the majority of my finds before I got to the checkout stand.

After Ikea, I punished myself with a trip to the Tacoma Mall.  Too many people!  Then a double whammy with a trip to the commissary for non-cold foods.  Lots of people there too!  But I done good.  All $250 worth of grub fit in my reusable bags!  And then before I knew it, it was 4pm and time to get ready to pick up my Soldier!  But since I did have a few minutes, I took a little site seeing trip to North Fort Lewis.  Since I had already driven by our first house in Tacoma, it was only fitting to see the Army barracks that we lived in for those three years!  And my my my, has Fort Lewis Joing Base Lewis McChord grown!  Lots and lots of new Company Headquarters and barracks.  Plus ROTC finally got some new digs and it looks as though they are going to demolish the old WWII barracks that housed them for the last 50 years!

It was refreshing to see how the north fort has changed.  The amenities are so nice now.  And I especially thought it was refreshing to see signs like "Got Army Strong?" within close proximity to signs that said "Got Nightmares?"--complete with a number to call.  It's the little things like that which really remind me of how hard military life is.  But seeing the amenities and the signs really shows you that our men and women are being taken care of.  A great feeling to have on this Memorial Day weekend!

Tomorrow the band is playing at the Capitol Rotunda.  I'm hoping to make it there for the concert.

See ya back in Waller Waller tomorrow!
